Why Family Literacy

Registration for the Fall 2017 Reading Buddies program will begin in September 2017.

Home is where our literacy grows.

When families read, write, rhyme, count and play with literacy together, kids are more ready for school, and parents have more confidence being kids’ first and best teachers. Everybody’s literacy grows.

15 minutes every day is all you need: read together, make crafts, tell stories, cook with recipes, fix things, write the grocery list, sing songs.

And Langley has GREAT family literacy programs.

Langley School District #35 supports family literacy programs at every school.

PALS – Parents As Literacy Supporters for children age 3-5 and their caregivers

I-PALS – Immigrant Parents as Literacy Supporters integrates ESL, at Douglas Park Community School

Aboriginal EAGLE – Enhancing Aboriginal Gains in Literacy Education is full-day kindergarten based on Aboriginal culture at Fort Langley Elementary, for children and their caregivers.
